I stumbled into painting murals on the side while working full time as a graphic designer in St. Louis, Missouri. I gained valuable experience in various areas, including advertising, illustration and television. Creating my own company, Michelle&Friends in 1986, allowed me to make mural painting a full time pursuit. Longing to get off the ladder and into the studio, I began taking oil classes in 2011, and here I am exploring this new medium and where it will take me creatively. I am actively involved in Stray Rescue of St. Louis where I find much of my inspiration. I feel so lucky that my passion for making the world a better place for abandoned and abused animals has lined up with my painting career, an unlikely dream come true.
I work with oil on canvas, palette knife and bold thick brush strokes. I begin a piece with a bold wash of color, followed by an expressive sketch, then apply oil paint. I want you to be drawn in by the image, the blurred lines, then continue to be intrigued by the bold texture and vibrant color in the detail when examined closely. In these pieces, I was inspired by the shelter dogs that I volunteer with, showing the joy in their new forever homes, talk about lucky dogs! But truly, I am the lucky one getting to paint my passion and share it with you.
